"The family, including Frank and his nine month old step-sister, Theresa and grandparents, Anton and Theresa Henkenius, left Bremen, Germany aboard the sailing ship, the S.S. Jubilium for the new country.

The trip started with 151 passengers ranging in age from two months to fifty-eight years old with seven children under one year of age. During the voyage, one person died and two children were born. They arrived in the Port of New Orleans on the 25th of November, 1856. The family traveled to New Vienna, Iowa, by the spring of 1857, where they settled on the Andrew Krapfl farm.

In 1863, they moved to their farm in Bremmen township in Delaware County. On March 1, 1873, F.J. Schelle married Maria Anna Berning, who was the daughter of Gerhard and Maria Anna Berning. That summer they moved to Carroll County where they purchased a farm west of Breda, which is at this time [1977], the residence of the Gregory Schelle family.

The first winter was spent in a temporary house until they built the existing house the following spring. When Mrs. Schelle's health began to fail in 1881, he rented the farm out and the family moved to Breda.

In the fall of 1881 he established a furniture business and subsequently took and agency for the Iowa Marble Works, and also for the sale of sewing machines. Mrs. Schelle died on June 7, 1884."
