Peryl Mary (Hovland) Berning, age 95, Luverne, MN, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Ashton Care Center in Pipestone. Services were Monday, March 20, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, MN. The Reverends' Thomas Jennings and Jim Berning officiated. Burial was at St. Anthony Cemetery in Lismore, MN.

Peryl Hovland was born to Nels and Mary (Remme) Hovland on April 20, 1910. She attended school in Kenneth. She married Leo H. Berning on Feb. 1, 1927, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore, MN. After their marriage the couple lived in Lismore until moving to Kenneth, MN in 1940.

In 1943 they moved to Luverne, MN. She worked at Roy's Café, Adams Hatchery and Hakes Produce in Luverne. The couple moved to Adrian in 1956. She then worked at Campbell's Soup Company in Worthington before retiring. They moved back to Luverne in 1987. She became a resident of Ashton Care Center at Pipestone, MN, in July 2003. Mrs. Berning was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the WCCW. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and dancing.

Survivors include one son, Leo Berning Jr. and his fiancée, Geneva Dibble, Alexandria; two daughters, Mary Ann Slagel, Northfield, and Betty Serie, Pipestone; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Joyce) Hovland, Luverne; and one sister, Rosie (Kenny) Sandstede, Hills.

Mrs. Berning was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo, on June 3, 1994, an infant grandson, a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Berning, two sons-in-law, Paul Slagel and Duane Serie; one brother, Leo Hovland, an infant sister, Esther Geneva, and three sisters, Gladys Jaqua, Hilda Watts and Amelia Frakes. Dingmann Funeral Home, Luverne, was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral of Breda Woman Held Thursday of last Week


Mrs. Jos. T. Grabner residing southwest of Breda died suddenly at her home Monday evening, April 22, following a stroke o£ apoplexy. She had been ill for about two months but her condition was not considered serious.

Deceased whose maiden name was Margaret Koster, was born August 5, 1883, on a farm near Breda, and has resided In this vicinity all her life.

On May 19, 1908, she was united in marriage to Joseph Grabner and to this union three children were born. They are Myrtle aged eight, Irene aged six and Joseph aged three. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her death, her father, William Koster, sr., three brothers, William, Joe and Clem, all residing near Breda, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Schulte, of Marshall, Minnesota, and Mrs. John Knobbe and Mrs. Tony Knobbe, residing near Willey.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Catholic church and Interment made in the Catholic cemetery in Breda

Mrs. Henry Schulte
Solemn requiem high mass for Mrs. Henry Schulte, 76, Marshall, Minn., was celebrated at Marshall Wednesday morning by her nephew, the Rev. Dale Koster.

Mrs. Schulte was a former Breda resident, having left there more than 50 years ago after her marriage.

She died April 29. Pallbearers were from Marshall, and burial was there.

Surviving are 11 children, all of Marshall; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John (Clara) Knobbe, Carroll; and three brothers, William, Joe and Clem Koster, Breda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died about 11 years ago; and a daughter, Viola.5
