Henry Schulte Is Taken by Death
(Time Herald news Service) BREDA - Henry Schulte of Marshall, Minn., former Breda resident, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Thursday afternoon, according to word received by relatives here. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schulte of Breda, he was about 75 years old.

Local relatives plan to attend the funeral services, which will be held at Marshall Monday morning.

Mr. Schulte was born on a farm three miles north of Breda in Sac County. He was married at St. Bernard church here to Josephine Koster. The couple lived here until March 1, 1918. Thirty-three years ago they moved to a farm near Marshall.

Surviving with his widow are 11 children; two brothers, Ben of Breda and Bert of Carroll, and three sisters, Mrs. Ben Wempe (Margaret) and Mrs. Herman Bruning (Dena), Breda, and Martha Schulte, Carroll.3

Raymond W. Schulte, 79, of Burnsville, MN, died Sunday evening, May 29, 1988, at Veterans Administration Hospital at St. Cloud, MN, following a long illness of cancer.

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. MN. Co-celebrants of the Mass were the Rev. Darold Lehman and Rev, Dale Koster. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Marshall, MN, with military graveside honors conducted. Casket bearers were his nephews, Bernard Schulte, Myron Schulte, Duane Redepenning, Leo Bradley, Gary Bitker and Steve Bitker.

Mr. Schulte was born May 30, 1908, at Breda, Iowa, the son of Henry and Josephine Koster Schulte. He spent his younger years in the Breda community and in the Spring of 1918 he moved with his parents to Marshall, MN.

On May 26, 1953, he and Alvera Schneider were married at the Catholic Church in Walnut Grove, MN. They farmed in the Marshall area of some time.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. For the past few years he lived with his daughter Diane, Mrs. Steve Kirchner in Burnsville, MN.

He is survived by his daughter Diane of Burnsville; a son Henry of Redwood Falls, MN; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Zachary Kirchner; three brothers: Carl Schulte of White Sulfur Springs, MT; George Schulte of Belfour, ND; and Albert Schulte of Marshall, MN; four sisters; Mrs. Doyle (Mabel) Alexander of Minneota, MN; Margaret Schulte of McMinnville, OR; Mrs. Henry (Clara) Swift of Elmira, NY; and Mrs. Lyman (Mildred) Northrop of Belfour, ND.

Mr. Schulte was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alvera in 1962; two brothers, Gilbert and Alvin; and two sisters, Viola and Marcella.3

Angela was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Marshall, Minn. to Sylvester F. and Denage M. (Gregoire) Blake. She graduated from Marshall High School.

Angela married Gilbert Schulte in 1943. In 1964, she married Forest Dooley. Later, she married Bob Nelson in 1983. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and playing cards.

Angela was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Gilbert Schulte, Forest Dooley and Bob Nelson; brothers, Don, Harry, Marvin; and a sister, Doris.

Survivors include her daughters, Jo Mosley and her husband, Rudy, Las Cruces, N.M; Barbara Schulte, Missouri Valley; Pat Schulte, Missouri Valley; and Mary Mosley and her husband, Wayne, Las Cruces, N.M; sons, Butch Schulte and his wife, Diane, Montevideo, Minn; Mike Schulte and his wife, Lorraine, Missouri Valley; and Alan Dooley and his friend, Nikki, Missouri Valley; brother, Ray Blake and his wife, Darlene, Lansing, Minn., nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Schulte, Marshall, Minn; and Lucille Blake, Marshall, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held May 31 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Missouri Valley, Rev. Fr. Bob Harris, officiant. Organist was Mary Stessman, vocalist was Elizabeth Dillinger. Honorary bearers were: Chris Schulte and Trevor Schulte. Casket bearers were: Bob King, Tim Dooley, Kenny Dooley, Dan Love, Matt Dooley and Mike Nielsen.

Interment was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Missouri Valley. Arrangements were by Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley.2

Alvin J. Schulte, 73, of rural Marshall, MN, died Friday, June 21, 1985, at Wiener Memorial Hospital in Marshall. He was a retired farmer.

Rosary was said at the Rehkamp Funeral Home at 8 o’clock Sunday evening, with the funeral Mass at 11 o’clock Monday morning at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Duane Redepenning, Bernard Schulte, Donald Alexander, Robert Nelson, Donald Vromau and Albert Kerkaret.

Alvin was born on December 8, 1911, at Breda, Iowa, to Henry and Josephine Koster Schulte, and his family moved to Marshall, MN, in 1918. He was married to Doris Blake on November 18, 1942, at Holy Redeemer Church and they farmed together for many years.

He is survived by his wife Doris and three daughters: Donna Lanaue of Tracy, MN; Caroline (Mrs. Edward) Gerry of Madison, SD; and Annette (Mrs. William) Curwick of Marshall, MN; four sons: Lawrence of Milray, MN; Donnvan of Townsend, MT; Myron of Amiret; and Brian at home; four brothers: Raymond of Marshall; Carl of White Sulphur Springs, MT; Albert of rural Marshall; and George of Drake, ND; five sisters: Mrs. Doyle (Mabel) Alexander of Minneota, MN; Margaret of McMinnville, OR; Marcella of Chicago, IL; Mrs. Henry (Clara) Swift of Elmira, NY; and Mrs. Lyman (Mildred) Northrop of Belfaur, ND; and 13 grandchildren.

Margaret J. Schulte, 76, of McMinnville, Oregon, died on Thursday May 2 in McMinnville Community Hospital in Oregon after a long illness with cancer.

Mass of the Christian burial for Margaret J. Schulte was Tuesday morning, May 7 at 11 o’clock at St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville with Father Carl Cimpl as celebrant of the mass. Rosaries were said on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Home in McMinnville. Interment was at St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Margaret Josephine Schulte was born November 7, 1914, in Breda, Iowa, to Henry and Josephine (Koster) Schulte. When she was quite young, she moved with her parents to Marshall, Minn. where she attended school. In 1942 she moved to Portland, Oregon and in 1944 she moved to Medford, Oregon. She has resided in McMinnville since 1946. For years she worked at St. Vincent De Paul in McMinnville, retiring in 1978.

Marcella M. Schulte, 68, retired waitress, of Chicago, IL, died Thursday, July 25, 1985, at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. The cause of death was due to cancer and a heart attack.

Marcella was born at Breda, Iowa, on January 25, 1917, to Henry and Josephine (Koster) Schulte. The family moved to Lyon County, at Marshall, MN, the spring of 1918. After receiving her formal education, she was employed as a waitress for many years in Marshall, Mankato and Minneapolis, MN. Detroit, MI, Washington, DC, and for the past thirty years she had resided and worked in Chicago.

Rosary was said at the Rehkamp Funeral Home in Marshall, MN at 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The funeral Mass was Monday morning at 11:00 a.m., at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Darold Lehman officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Marshall. Pall bearers were Duane Redepenning, Bernard Schulte, Ed Gerry, Leo Bradley, Brian Schulte and Steve Kirchner.

Survivors include her four brothers: Raymond and Albert of Marshall, MN; George of Drake, ND, and Carl, of White Sulphur Springs, MT; four sisters: Mrs. Doyle (Mabel) Alexander of Minneota, MN, Mrs. Henry (Clara) Swift of Elmira, NY, Margaret Schulte of McMinnville, OR, and Mrs. Lyman (Mildred) Northrup of Balfour, ND.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Viola, and two brothers, Gilbert and Alvin.3

Albert Henry Schulte of Clifton Township, Marshall, MN, died Thursday, Aug. 22 in Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a long illness with cancer. He was 65 years, 11 months and 21 days old at the time of his death.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held Sat. Aug. 24, 2 O’clock at St. Mary Chapel in Marshall, MN with Father William Sprigler as the celebrant. Military service at the church and graveside services were conducted at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Casket bearers were his nephews; Bud Redepenning, Dennis Lanoui, Bernard Schulte, Leo Bradley, Brian Schulte and Myron Schulte.

Albert Henry Schulte was born on Sept. 1st, 1925, in Stanley Township, Marshall, MN to Henry and Josephine Koster Schulte.

He was married to Myrtle Stelter Jorgensen in 1964 and farmed in Clifton Township for 26 years. He was a member of V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife and step-daughters; Barbara, Mrs. Allen Albertson, and Beatrice Hermes, both of Foxholm, MN. Judy, Mrs. Ty Roberts of Marshall, and Ardell, Mrs. Robert Fay of Federal Way, Washington; step-son Jerry Jorgensen of Omaha, NE; fifteen step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Three sisters; Mabel, Mrs. Doyle Alexander of Minneota, MN; Clara, Mrs. Henry Swift of Elmira, New York; Mildred, Mrs. Lyman Northrop of Belfour, ND; and two brothers; Carl Schulte, White Sulphur Springs, MT and George Schulte of Belfour, ND; and also special friend Wally Madden of Cotton Woods, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.3

Myrtle Stelter
Myrtle was born February 8, 1919, in Island Lake Township in Lyon County, the daughter of August and Ida (Wolff) Stelter.

She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and renewed her baptismal covenant through confirmation at Zion Lutheran Church of Island Lake. She received her education in the township’s country school.

She was married to Harold Jorgensen February 8, 1937, and to this union was born six children. She later married Albert Schulte and they bought a farm in Clifton Township. They farmed until Albert’s death on August 22, 1991, and Myrtle remained on the farm until she moved to Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Myrtle worked at the Club 59 for many years. She was a member of the St Stephen Lutheran Church of Marshall.

Myrtle died on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.

Myrtle is survived by her family; Barbara (Allen) Albertson of Erhard, Judy (Ty) Roberts of Marshall, Ardell (Robert) Fay of Graham, Washington, Beatrice (Tim) Hought of Foxhome and Jerry (Tory) Jorgensen of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, and 3 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her good friend, Elsie Coudron, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by; her husband, Albert Schulte, her parents, one infant son, 3 sisters, one brother and one infant granddaughter.

Mass of the Christian Burial for George Schulte, 64, of Anamoose, ND, formerly of Marshall, MN, was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 20 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Father Brian Oestreich officiated. Mr. Schulte passed away Saturday, October 16, 1993 at St. Aloisius Hospital, Harvey, SD.

Casket bearers were his nephews, Bud Redepenning, Bernard Schulte, Myron Schulte, Leo Bradley, Ed Gerry and Brian Schulte.

George Edward Schulte was born April 22, 1929, in Stanley Township, Marshall, MN, to Henry and Josephine (Koster) Schulte, former residents of Breda, IA. He attended school in Stanley Township.

Mrs. Schulte entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to the Marshall area and farmed with his brother. He later bought a farm near Ashby, MN where he made his home until his retirement in 1983. He then moved to North Dakota and lived in the Anamoose area.

He was a member of the Oswald Wohl VFW Post No. 6831.

Survivors include a brother; Carl Schulte of White Sulfur Springs, MT, sisters; Mabel Alexander of Minneota, MN, Mildred Northrup of Balfour, ND, Clara Swift of Elmira, NY and many nieces and nephew in Marshall and the surrounding area.

Mr. Schulte was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.3

BREDA - Matilda Koster, 92, of Breda, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday, February 4, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial was concelebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, February 7, at St. Bernard church in Breda with the Rev. Dale Koster, a nephew, as the principal celebrant and the Rev. Richard Birdsall as concelebrant. Lector was a grandson, Allen Koster. Gift - bearers, grandchildren, were Robert, Rose Marie, Marian and Sharon Koster; Duane Heinrichs and James Blum. Mass-servers were Dan, Scott, and Tim Koster and Jeff Heinrichs. Casket bearers were Lawrence Huegerich, Greg Schelle, Clair Snyder, Mike Wollner, LeRoy Gerken and Gerald Van Erdewyk. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Rosaries were recited at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda on Sunday at 3 p.m. by the Ladies Guild and the Breda Senior Citizens Club, at 4 p.m. by the Rosary Makers Club, and at 8:45 p.m. A scriptural prayer service was conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. by the parish.

Mrs. Koster is survived by 10 children: William J., Harlan; Walter, Breda; Mrs. Robert (Velma) Blum, Panama, Iowa; Kermit, Wall Lake; Donald, Breda; Mrs. Marvin (Maxine) Heinrichs, Fulda, Minn; Doyle, Fonda; Roger, Elkader; Mrs. Cletus (Ruth) Heinrichs, Marshalltown, and Leroy, Breda; 20 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, and two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Hazel Koster, Breda, and Mrs. John (Clara) Knobbe, Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on April 14, 1965; six sisters , three brothers , two granddaughters and a grandson.

Mrs. Koster was born July 10, 1890, at Arcadia, a daughter of Joseph N. and Margaret Stemper Grabner. She spent her early years in the Arcadia area and later moved to Breda where she received her education. On February 6, 1912, she was married to William Koster at St. Bernard church in Breda by the Rev. Edgar L. Schleyer. After their marriage, they farmed three miles west and a half mile south of Breda until 1961 when they retired and moved into Breda. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Feb. 6, 1962. She entered the nursing home in August of 1981.

She was a member of St. Bernard church, the Ladies Guild, and Rosary Makers, which she founded and for which she personally made 10,000 mission rosaries.3

Mrs. Koster, 92, died on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan. Burial will be at Harlan Cemetery,

A rosary will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan and a wake service will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan.

A daughter of Louie and Mary Woerdehoff, she was born on Jan. 2, 1909, at Breda, and attended grade school in the Breda area. She married William Koster in 1935 and the couple lived in Breda for a time before they later moved to Dolliver and then to Harlan.

Mrs. Koster was a homemaker and the Kosters raised seven children. Survivors in the Carroll area include a sister, Philomena Naberhaus and her husband, Wilfred, of Halbur, a brother, Art Woerdehoff and his wife, Evelyn, of Wall Lake and several cousins.2

BREDA - Walter B. Koster, 91, of Breda, a former longtime Carroll County supervisor, died Wednesday night, Nov. 8, 2006, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial for Mr. Koster will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda with the Revs. James McAlpin and Dale Koster concelebrating. Lector will be Paula Winkel. Gift Bearers will be Sarah Strong, Amy Jo Kollasch, Theresa Koster, and Karen White. Servers will be Jim and John Grabner. Eucharistic ministers will be Ione Koster and Joyce Koster. Casket bearers will be Patrick Koster, Chris Kollasch, Paul Koster, David Koster, Robert Winkel and Kyle Strong. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at Breda.

Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m. and a rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Friday at Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. St. Bernard Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A son of William and Matilda (Grabner) Koster, he was born Nov. 8, 1915, at Breda and spent his life in the community. He graduated from St. Bernard High School at Breda in 1932 then farmed with his family. He and Viola Reising were married Feb. 6, 1939, at St. Bernard Church.

The Kosters farmed west of Breda. In 1951 they purchased the home farm northwest of Breda. Mr. Koster was a grain and livestock farmer and was a salesman for Arbie Feeds for many years. Mr. Koster served on the Carroll County Board of Supervisors for 19 years, from 1970 to 1988. While there he helped establish Mallard View, the Carroll County Recycling Center and Westco Industries in Denison. He also served on the 5th Judicial District Board. The Kosters moved into Breda in 1987.

Mr. Koster was presented the Good Neighbor Award by the Carroll Chamber of Commerce in 1995 for his work on the Board of Supervisors, Carroll Area Development Corp. and Region 12 Council of Governments. He was also a poll worker for Wheatland Township for many years and was a member of the former Carroll County School Board.

He was a member of St. Bernard Parish and enjoyed attending sporting events and making hunting and fishing trips with family and friends.

Survivors include five children: Allen Koster and wife Joyce of Carroll, Mary Kay Koster of Sioux City, James Koster of Breda, John Koster and wife Ione of Breda and Marcia Kollasch and husband Dean of Viroqua, Wis; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Kermit Koster of Lake View, Roger Koster and wife Darlene of Elkader and LeRoy Koster and wife Joanell of Breda; two sisters: Maxine Heinrichs and husband Marvin of Fulda, Minn., and Ruth Heinrichs and husband Cletus of Marshalltown; and three sisters-in-law: Bernice Koster of Fonda, Dolores Koster of Breda and Dorothy Walz of Carroll.

Mr. Koster was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola, in 2002; three brothers: William, Doyle and Donald Koster; a sister, Velma Blum; two sisters-in-law: Loretta Koster and Elsie Koster; and a brother-in-law, Bob Blum.2

Breda - Viola Koster, 89, of Breda died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. The celebrant will be Father James Smith. Lector will be Christopher Kollasch. Gift bearers will be Paul, Patrick and David Koster. Mass servers will be Andy Koster, Lydia Schettler and Megan Schettler. Eucharistic ministers will be lone Koster and Joyce Koster. Casket bearers will be Neil Steinkamp, Orlin Steinkamp, Bob Schettler, Darrell Schettler, Dan Walz and Paul Schwarzkopf. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church for the funeral Mass.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 3 by the St. Bernard Ladies Guild and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Parish.

Viola Koster was born April 8, 1913, at Wall Lake, a daughter of Louis and Barbara (Heidenreich) Reising. She spent her younger years in the Wall Lake community and attended Carnarvon schools and St. Bernard School in Breda and then performed housework in the area.

On Feb. 6, 1939, she was married to Walter Koster at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The couple farmed west of Breda until 1987 when they moved to their home in Breda.

Mrs. Koster was a homemaker. She was a. member of the St. Bernard Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Parish Quilters, Breda American Legion Auxiliary and National Catholic Society of Foresters. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and gardening.

Mrs. Koster is survived by her husband, Walt Koster, of Breda; five children, Allen Koster and his wife, Joyce, of Carroll, Mary Kay Koster of Iowa City, Jim Koster of Breda, John Koster, and his wife, lone, of Breda, and Marcia Kollasch and her husband, Dean, of Iowa Falls; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Walz of Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Sister Emerentia Reising, Estella Steinkamp, Marion Schettler and Rita Schwarzkopf; and two brothers, Marcell and Romaine Reising.2
