James H. "Jim" Berns
James H. Berns was born July 2, 1946, in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Herman and Lillian (Bierl) Berns, the second born of three sons.
After graduating in 1964 from Pocahontas Community Schools in Pocahontas, Iowa he attended Emmetsburg Community College, Emmetsburg, and graduated in 1969 from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., with a bachelor of arts degree in social studies.
He completed a master of arts degree in social studies/political science in 1978 from Loras College in Dubuque.
Jim Berns was an educator in the Turkey Valley Community School system located at Jackson Junction for 32 years until pancreatic cancer forced his retirement in 2002.
December 28, 1971, he was united in marriage to Inez G. Steffen of Varina, Iowa. They have enjoyed their life together here in Northeast Iowa making enduring friendships and especially have enjoyed walleye fishing on the Mississippi River where they have owned a summer cabin for many years.
Jim Berns was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Berns.
