William J. Koester, 87, Carroll died Monday, May 22, 1995, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial for Mr. Koester will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with Father Richard Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be David, Ted, Jerry, John and Bill Koester and Bill Goetzinger. Gift bearers for the Mass will be Kathy Koester and Betty McCaffrey. Lector will be Christy Gute.

Visitation began at 2:30 p.m. today at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, where a rosary was recited at 3 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home, followed by a rosary at 8:15 p.m. recited by the Knights of Columbus.

He was born May 10, 1908, at Willey, a son of William and Christina (Wibben) Koester. He attended school in Willey.

On Feb.12, 1949, he married Julitta Brinks at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. Mr. Koester was a retired farmer. He also operated a filling station and was an employee of the City of Carroll. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife Julitta Koester of Carroll, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Ted and George, and six sisters, Josephine, Clara, Anna, Sister Silvina, Margaret and Sister Mary.2

Dolorosa (Mrs. Art) Braun
ALTON, Iowa – Dolorosa Braun, 85, of rural Alton, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1989, at an Orange City hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with parish rosaries at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Braun was born July 21, 1904, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Josepha (Wiltgen) Eulberg. The family moved to the Alton area when she was 4. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Alton in 1922. She was a telephone operator for West Iowa Telephone Co. at Alton until her marriage to John C. Henrich, Jan. 30, 1928, in Alton. The couple made their home in Alton. He died Sept. 9, 1951. She then married Arthur Braun Aug. 21, 1954, in Alton. They farmed near Alton, and continued to live there after retiring in 1973. Mr. Braun died March 29, 1989.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, and a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She played the organ at St. Mary’s Church over a period of 60 years.

Survivors include a son, Robert Henrich of San Pedro, Calif; three daughters, Miss Estelle Henrich of Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Bill (Dolores) Pfaffle of Sioux City, and Mrs. Charles (Rosemary) Iddings of Sioux Falls, S. D; three stepsons, Leo Braun of Granville, Iowa, Arthur J. Braun of Marcus, and Thomas Braun of Alton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cyril (Rose Mary) Ortmann of Merrill, and Mrs. Milton (Kathleen Kay) Delperdang of Marcus; four sisters, Sister Mary Auxilia, O. S. F., and Sister Mary Thomas, O. S. F., both of Dubuque, Iowa, Miss Eulalia Eulberg of Redlands, Calif., and Miss Marie Eulberg of Orange City, Iowa; nine grandchildren, 44 step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 46 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents, a step-daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Margaret) Schreier; a step-granddaughter, Rita Braun, and four brothers, Theodore, Vincent, Leo and Gerald.2
