Julius (Juke) Boes, 79, of rural Breda, died Tuesday, May 6, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Friday, May 9, at St. Bernard Church in Breda, with the Rev. Thomas Munn as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Boes is survived by his wife, Myrtle, Breda; five daughters: Mrs. Raymond (Ardys Ann) Collins, Scranton; Mrs. Merle (Wilma Jean) Pudenz, Lake View; Mrs. Mary Jo Thayer, Olathe, Kan; Mrs. Terry (Audrey Lou) Johnson, Bode; and Mrs. Douglas (Muriel) Hiner, Omaha; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers: William Boes, Breda; Cletus Boes, Carroll; and Romain Boes, Carroll; and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Eleanora) Steinkamp, Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson and four brothers, the Rev. Norbert, Leonard, Herbert and Aloys Boes.

Mr. Boes was born on February 16, 1907, at Carnarvon, Iowa, a son of John and Anna Geier Boes. He spent his young years in the Carnarvon and Wall Lake communities where he attended county school and St. Bernard School in Breda.

On August 11, 1931, he was married to Myrtle Grabner at St. Bernard's Church in Breda by the Rev. E.L. Schleyer. After their marriage the couple made their home on the farm two and a half miles north of Breda which is their current residence.

He was a member of St. Bernard parish, the Breda Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Third Order of St. Francis.2

Mrs. Boes, 92, died Thursday, Dec.27, 2001, at the Brookstone Caring Household for Seniors in Omaha, Neb.

Rev. James Smith will celebrate the Mass. Lector will be Adam Pudenz and gift bearers will be Sarah Hines, Liz Collins, Courtney Johnson, Erin Pudenz and Ann Toft. Mass servers will be Ryan Thayer, Tim Reising and Joe Grabner and Eucharistic ministers will be Ray Collins and Terry Johnson. Casket bearers will be Todd Johnson, Chris Thayer, Jamison Hiner, Matt Thayer, Tim Thayer, Mike Thayer, Julius Pudenz and Jaime Pudenz. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda.

A daughter of Joseph T. and Margaret (Koster) Grabner, she was born Nov. 26, 1909, at Arcadia. She attended St. Bernard Schools and the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn., receiving her teaching certificate and then teaching country school.

She and Julius J. Boes were married on Aug. 11, 1931, at St. Bernard Church in Breda and the couple farmed north of Breda. Mrs. Boes moved to the Breda Betterment Apartments in 1990, to the Swan House in Carroll in 2000 and to Omaha in 2001.

Mrs. Boes was a member of St. Bernard Parish, its Ladies Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, National Catholic Society of Foresters (serving as past president), China Painters Guild and the Third Order of St. Francis.

Survivors include five daughters, Ardys Collins and her husband, Ray, of Scranton, Wilma Pudenz and her husband, Merle, of Lake View, Mary Jo Loyd and her husband, Robert, of Leawood, Kan., Audrey Johnson and her husband, Terry, of Bode, Iowa, and Myriel Hiner-Boes of Omaha; 22 grandchildren; 46 great -grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann Stork of Carroll.

Mrs. Boes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Julius in 1986; a brother, Joseph W. Grabner; a sister, Irene Hobart; a grandson, Anthony Collins; and a great-grandson, Nathan Pudenz.3

Ardys Ann Collins, 76, of Scranton, died March 1, 2009, at Jefferson.

Mass of the Resurrection was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Scranton. Father Don Reis was the celebrant. Lectors were Matthew Taylor and Adam Taylor. Casket bearers were Emily Taylor, Adam Taylor, Anthony Taylor, Rodney Wolf, Doug Miller and Pat Murrane. Burial was in Scranton Township Cemetery in Scranton at 3 .m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton. The Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home of Jefferson was in charge of the arrangements.

A daughter of Julius and Myrtle (Grabner) Boes, she was born June 23, 1932, in Breda. She was the first of five daughters. She attended St. Bernard Grade School and High School. After graduating from high school in 1949, she worked at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. In 1953, Ardys married Raymond L. Collins of Lohrville, Iowa. They moved to a farm in Greene County in December 1953 where they continue to farm. They raised four children: Anthony, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Melissa.

Ardys was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Scranton. She served on the Scranton Library Board, she was a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America, a member of the Varcies Club, and enjoyed Bridge Club. She was an avid reader, excellent cook and baker, horticulturist and card player.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Collins; three daughters: Elizabeth Ann Collins of Council Bluffs, Jennifer Jean (Collins) Taylor and husband Matthew Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Melissa Joan (Collins) Thompson and husband Michael Thompson of Cocoa Beach, Florida; grandchildren Emily Rae Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona, Adam Jerome Taylor and Anthony Robert Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her three sisters: Mary Jo (Bob) Loyd, Leawood, Kansas, Myriel Boes of Omaha, and Audrey (Terry) Johnson of Bod[e, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Anthony "Tony" John Collins; and a sister, Wilma "Jean" (Boes) Pudenz.1

SCRANTON - Mass of the Christian Burial for Anthony John (Tony) Collins, 25, who was found dead at his home in rural Scranton Tuesday, Aug. 12, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Scranton with Msgr. O. W. Koester officiating.

Burial, under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton, will be in the Scranton cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dale McDonald, Jim Walker, John Marks, John Pemble, Rodney Wolf and Jack Murphy.

A parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Scranton funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.

Surviving are his parents: three sisters: Elizabeth and Melissa, both of Scranton, and Mrs. Matthew (Jennifer) Taylor, San Antonio, Tex., and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Boes, Breda.

He was preceded by his paternal grandparents.

Mr. Collins was a farmer and worked with his father in a farming operation.

He was born Oct. 28, 1954, at Carroll, a son of Raymond and Ardys Ann Boes Collins. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1973 and attended Community College at Fort Dodge. He was a member of St. Paul's Church.2

Wilma "Jean" Pudenz, 73, of Lake View died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Visitation started at 4 this afternoon at the church. The family will be present from 6 to 8 tonight. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.

A daughter of Julius and Myrtle (Grabner) Boes, she was born June 17, 1935, at Carroll, was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda, grew up in Breda and attended St. Bernard School there, graduating in 1953. She then studied music education at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City.

She and Merle Pudenz were married Jan. 25, 1955, at St. Bernard Church. The Pudenzes resided at Lake View. Mrs. Pudenz was a co-owner and secretary for Pudenz Popcorn Co.

She was member, choir director, cantor and CCD instructor and belonged to the Ladies Guild at St. Bernard Parish. She also participated in Meals on Wheels, Country Chords, Ecumenical Community Choir, Lake View Garden Club and the Foresters. She enjoyed music, painting, Indian culture, gardening and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Merle, of Lake View; nine children and their spouses: Jeff and Nancy Pudenz of Breda, Carmen and Dean Reising of Des Moines, Jan and Lori Pudenz of Canton, S.D., Juke and Lisa Pudenz of Lake View, Jerry and Anne Marie Pudenz of Lewisburg, Ohio, Jay Pudenz of Kansas City, Mo., Jody and Becky Pudenz of Lewisburg, Ohio, Ann and Chris Toft of Arcadia and Jaime and Crystal Pudenz of Lake View; 30 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters and their husbands: Ardys and Ray Collins of Scranton, Mary Jo and Bob Lloyd of Leawood, Kan., Audrey and Terry Johnson of Bode and Myriel Boes of Omaha, Neb.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial will be at Wall Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Merle Pudenz was born on Jan. 2, 1934, in Carroll, to parents Norbert and Elenore (Balk) Pudenz. He spent most of his childhood in Auburn and Mount Carmel area, and lived there until 1962.

He met the love of his life in Wilma “Jean” Boes of Breda, and they were married on Jan. 25, 1955, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. This union was blessed with nine children. They made their home in Breda, Lohrville, and in 1981, moved to Lake View.

Merle worked hard to provide for his family as a farmer. He also started a popcorn business with Jean, which he was very proud of.

The Pudenzes were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lohrville, and then were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. He was a member of the Lake View Lions Club and The Foresters. He loved farming, loved selling his popcorn, and especially loved his grandkids.

He is survived by his children Jeff (Nancy) Pudenz of Breda, Carmen (Dean) Reising of Des Moines, Jan (Lori) Pudenz of Canton, S.D., Julius “Juke” (Lisa) Pudenz of Lake View, Jerry (friend Maria) Pudenz of Lewisberg, Ohio, Jay (friend Theresa) Pudenz of Kansas City, Mo., Jody (Julie) Pudenz of Lewisberg, Ohio, Ann (Chris) Toft, Arcadia, and Jamie (Crystal) Pudenz of Lake View; 30 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Eugene (Dorothy) Pudenz, of Carroll, Lester (Barb) Pudenz, of Wall Lake, and Roger Pudenz of Carroll; sisters: Marilyn (Don) Wench of Carroll and Judy (Marvin) Masching of St. Louis, Mo; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean; parents Norbert and Elenore; parents-in-law Julius and Myrtle Boes; and grandson Nathan Pudenz.1
