Josephine Voelmeck
Josephine D. Voelmeck, 77, of Piqua died Monday, Jan. 12, at Sterling Heights Manor. She had been in declining health for several years.

She was born Oct. 16, 1903, in Piqua. She was the daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Koester) Kress and had lived her entire live in the Piqua area. She attended school in Piqua and Neosha Falls. On Oct, 16, 1928, she was united in marriage to Anthony Voelmeck in Piqua. He preceded her in death in February 1936. Mrs. Voelmeck was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Survivors include two brothers, Paul Kress of Piqua and Dr. Jacob A. Kress, St. Louis, Mo; two sisters, Mrs. Claude (Teresa) Kolthoff, Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Curtis (Genevieve) Peine, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman C. and Jerome Kress, and a sister, Mary Irene Kress.

The Rev. Joseph Tockert of Yates Center will be celebrant of the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Martin's Catholic Church, Piqua. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery. Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Martin's Church.3

Genevieve Piene
Genevieve E. Kress Peine was born November 24, 1909, in Piqua, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob Albert and Katherine (Koester) Kress. She married Curtis J. Peine in 1930; he preceded her in death on November 11, 1963. Genevieve was a graduate of Neosho Falls High School in Kansas, and was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, and was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Shamrocks. Genevieve died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 90 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Wallace Peine of Piqua, Kansas, Rita Buckingham of Silver Hill, Maryland, Julie Horstman of Cedar Falls, Coena Iacovone of Coral Springs, Florida and Jeannie George of Des Moines, Iowa; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Teresa Burry of Washburn, Iowa and her brother, Dr. Jacob A. Kress of Hillsboro, Missouri.
Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband and parents, a grandson, Michael Horstman, three brothers and two sisters.
Services: Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.

ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Herman C. Kress, 60, of 116 Sutton St., died at his home at 8:30 a.m. Sunday of a heart attack.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church in Evansdale with the Rev. Ronald Friedell, member of the pastoral team of St. Nicholas and St. John's Catholic Churches, will officiate. Burial will be in Mr. Olivet Cemetery.

Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Scripture Service at 7:30 Tuesday at Oppold Funeral Home, Waterloo, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Kress was born July 4, 1912, in Iola Kan., the son of Jacob and Katherine Koester Kress. He married Agnes McGlade in Waterloo on May 29, 1944.

He served with the Army in Europe during World War II and was a prisoner of war for six months. Mr. Kress was employed as a carpenter by the Art Burns Construction Company. A member of St. Nicholas Church, he was also a member of the Evansdale Amvets.

Surviving are two sons, Michael at home, and William of 1028 Fox St., Evansdale; two daughters, Mrs. Larry Davisson, of Cedar Rapids, and Miss Eileen Kress of Lisbon; one granddaughter; two brothers, Dr. Jacob Kress of St. Louis, Mo., and Paul of Piqua, Kan; three sisters, Mrs. Claude Kolthoff of Rt. 4 Waterloo; Mrs. Josephine Voalmeck of Piqua, Kan., Mrs. Genevieve Peine, of 3401 Veralta Drive, Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and an infant sister.2

Jacob Albert "Jay" Kress, age 93 of Hillsboro, Missouri entered into rest February 20, 2017, at Fountainbleau Nursing Center, Festus,

Born April 28, 1923, in Piqua Kansas, to the late Jacob and Katherine (Koester) Kress. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a company clerk, stenographer and court reporter and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; He had previously operated dental offices in Concord Village in South St Louis County and had taught at St Louis Univerity and Washington University Dental Schools. Jay had been active in 4-H Club, St Louis Arts & Improvement, Inc and North St Louis Development Association. After buying the farm on Glade Chapel Rd in 1960 he built a new house, barns and developed gardens now known as Kress Farm Garden Preserve. His very good friend and partner, Wally Lorella, paid to have a new club house built for the Club. He and Wally built a house in Antonia, MO and restored several apartments and home in South St Louis. He attended St Louis University and was awarded Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1951. During the years he was in partnership with his father and operated a grocery store.

In addition to his parents and good friend, Wally, he was preceded in death by siblings: Herman, William, Jerome, Josephine, Teresa, Genevieve and Mary.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends including, Bill and Delia Cannon.

H. G. Koester Dies at Age of 68
Herman G. Koester, Woodson County farmer, died yesterday at the Allen County Hospital. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Koester was born at Minonk, Ill, coming to Kansas in 1900. Since then he has farmed near Piqua, where he was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his widow; four daughters, Mrs. William Porter and Miss Ceal Clare Koester, Woodstock, Ill., Mrs. Raymond Lampe, Piqua, and Mrs. Clifford Plate, Kansas City, Kas., a brother, George Koester, Piqua; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, St . Louis, and four grandchildren.

Rosary services will be conducted in the home at 8 p. m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be in St. Martin's Church at 9 a. m., Wednesday. The Rev. Francis Hay will officiate.

Burial will be at Piqua.7
