Rose M. Steinkamp Snyder
Rose M., daughter of Max and Mary Wanninger Kastl, was born December 10, 1919, at Templeton, Iowa. She spent her younger years in Coon Rapids and graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. In 1940 Rose was united in marriage with Walter Steinkamp at St. Bernard Church in Breda. Three children were born to this union. Rose was a hard worker and after Walter died in 1950 she held various jobs around the Breda area to support her young children. In 1961 she was united in marriage with Rudell Snyder in Breda. They lived on a farm near Breda and later moved to a farm near Schaller. Rudell died in May of 1983 and Rose moved to Carroll. She was the baker at St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary Coffee Shop from 1984 until 2004.

Rose was a busy lady while living on the farm. She raised chickens for many years as well as canning produce. In her spare time she enjoyed baking for her family and knitted numerous afghans. Above all she enjoyed raising her children and time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church until moving to Carroll and joining Holy Spirit Church. She was a member of St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.

In November of 2010 Rose moved to Swan House Assisted Living in Carroll. Due to her declining health, Rose moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll in June of 2012. She died there on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Besides her parents, Rose is preceded in death by both her husbands, daughter Lois Steinkamp in 1968; son Clete Steinkamp in 2004; great grandson Maxwell Kies in 2007; Brother John (Jack) Kastl; Sisters Clara Warden and Ardella Heiman; step grandson Tim Haberl.

Rose is survived by her son Kenny (Linda) Steinkamp of Breda; 5 grandchildren, Jodi (Scott) Lenz of Carroll; Jill (Jason) Kies of Wall Lake; Julie (Shane) Burcar of Gilbert, AZ; Jenni (Kris) Maines of Mesa, AZ; Brian (Maggie) Steinkamp of Breda; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter in law Audrey Steinkamp of Carroll; sisters Edith Kastl of Carroll and Marcella Kern of Carlsbad, CA; step-daughter JoAnn (Don) Renze of Omaha, NE; 7 step-grandchildren: Tony (Melanie) Renze of Omaha, NE; Angela Renze of Omaha, NE; Troy (Renee) Haberl of Cave Creek, AZ; Tadd (Michelle) Haberl of Arcadia; Tracy Haberl of S. Lois Marie Steinkamp, 19, of Breda, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 21 at University Hospital, Omaha, after a long illness. She had been in failing health since last October.

Requiem mass was read at 11:15 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. John C. Doherty. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The Twit Funeral Home of Carroll was in charge.

Pallbearers were: John and Marvin Thobe, Jim Stork, Jim and Richard Steinkamp, and Roger Eischeid.

Miss Steinkamp was born at Carroll, Dec. 4, 1948, a daughter of Walter and Rose Kastle Steinkamp. She received her schooling at Breda and took specialized training as a medical assistant in Indianapolis, Ind. Since May 1967, she had been employed as a medical assistant in Physician’s Clinic, Omaha. She was a member of St. Bernard Church, Breda.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudell Snyder, Breda: two brothers, Cletus and Kenneth, a stepsister, Mrs. Donald (JoAnn) Renze, Grand Island, Neb; and her grandmother, Mrs. Mary Kastle of Carroll.2

Leonard G. Steinkamp
Mass of the Christian Burial for Leonard G. Steinkamp, 60, of rural Breda was celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, at St. Bernard church with the Rev. Robert McClintock officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Steinkamp, a farmer, died at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He had been in failing health for about a year.

A scriptural prayer service was conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda with the Kuemper High School varsity and sophomore boys' basketball teams participating. Pallbearers were Harold Uhlenkamp, Leo Snyder, Ray Schettler, Wilmer Schelle, Ed Snyder and Dean Tiefenthaler. The Rev. J. Charles Yetmar was lector; Russell Nieland, Jon Heisterkamp and Bob Neumayer mass-servers, and two grandchildren: Scott Steinkamp and Nikki Bierl gift bearers.

Mr. Steinkamp is survived by his wife Lynette; nine children: Jim and Dick, Breda; Mrs. Leon (Alyce) Bierl, Arcadia; Tom, Carroll; LeRoy, Mike, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Dettbarn, Dale and Dean, Breda; eight grandchildren; a brother Anton Steinkamp, Arcadia; four sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Thobe, Carroll; Mrs. Theresa Kramer, Lidderdale; Mrs. Mary Kohorst, Arcadia, and Mrs. Hilbert (Agnes) Eischeid, Manning, and his mother-in-law Mrs. Catherine Schultes, Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerome in infancy and three brothers.

Mr. Steinkamp was born January 7, 1921, at Breda, a son of Ferdinand and Mary Nieland Steinkamp. He spent his entire life in the area with the exception of U.S. Army service from Sept. 8, 1942, to Oct. 7, 1945, during World War II.

On July 31, 1945, he was married to Lynette Schultes at St. Mary's Church, Willey, by the late Rev. H.J. Drees.

After their marriage they farmed a mile north of Breda, their present home. He was a member of St. Bernard Church and Fred A. and Norman J. Bruning American Legion Post.2

BREDA - Lynette C. Steinkamp, 87, of Breda, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda with the Rev. Joe Dillinger presiding. Lector will be Mrs. Steinkamp's nephew, Leonard Snyder. Gift bearers will be granddaughters: Morgan Steinkamp, Brea Steinkamp and Lindsay Umstead. Servers will be Mariah Masching, Matt Wessling and Dillon Walsh. Eucharistic ministers will be Mary Lou Schultes, Katy Hildman and Laurie Steinkamp.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Wes Bierl, Doug Steinkamp, Jon Steinkamp, Mitchell Dettbarn, Chase Steinkamp, Eric Steinkamp and Ryan Steinkamp. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at Breda.

Visitation starts at 2:30 and the St. Bernard Ladies Guild will lead a rosary at 3 Thursday afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. St. Bernard Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 Thursday night at the funeral home.

A daughter of Mike and Catherine (Zitzlsperger) Schultes, she was born Aug. 25, 1921, at Dedham, spent her younger years in Dedham and Willey, attended St. Mary School in Willey and St. Angela Academy in Carroll then did domestic work in the area.

She and Leonard Steinkamp were married July 31, 1945, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey. They farmed north of Breda until Mr. Steinkamp's death in 1984, then Mrs. Steinkamp moved into Breda.

She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Guild and enjoyed gambling, going to dog races, cooking and going for drives in her car.

Survivors include seven children and their spouses: James and Faith Steinkamp of Carroll, Richard and Jan Steinkamp of Breda, Alyce and Leon Bierl of Arcadia, Thomas and Laurie Steinkamp of Carroll, LeRoy "Doc" Steinkamp and fiancé Sherry Burton of Breda, Mike and Lori Steinkamp of Breda, Mary and Larry Dettbarn of Breda, Dale and Phyllis Steinkamp of Breda and Dean and Dana Steinkamp of Creston; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters: Alvera Irlbeck of Carroll, Janet Snyder of Breda, Dorothy Bruening of Carroll, Loretta Hannasch of San Antonio, Texas, and Marilyn Pletchette of Carroll; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Schultes of Dedham and Maxine Schultes of Carroll.

Mrs. Steinkamp was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; an infant son, Jerome Steinkamp; two grandchildren: Adam and Tessa Steinkamp; three sisters: Lavina Tigges, Louise Schultes and Mary Jo Schultes; and two brothers: Arthur Schultes and Leon Schultes.1

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. on Friday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on October 4, 1952, at Hartley, Iowa, Laurie was the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Kupper) Fischer. She grew up in Everly, and graduated from Everly High School. After high school she attended Briar Cliff University where she would later graduate with a teaching degree. Laurie taught school in Denison before moving to Carroll where she taught at St. Bernard School. It was in Breda where she met Tom Steinkamp, and they were married on July 26, 1980, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. Laurie was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed walking, reading, animals, (especially cats) traveling, visiting Morgan in Ankeny, substitute teaching, and her many trips to Okoboji. Laurie was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Left to celebrate her life include her husband Tom Steinkamp of Carroll; daughter Morgan Steinkamp of Ankeny; her sisters: Linda (Dave) DeMuth of Okoboji, and Lisa Myers and special friend, Doug Laumbach of Everly; her brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws, Jim (Faith) Steinkamp of Carroll, Dick (Jan) Steinkamp of Breda, Alyce (Leon) Bierl of Arcadia, LeRoy “Doc” (Sherry) Steinkamp of Breda, Mike (Lori) Steinkamp of Breda, Mary (Larry) Dettbarn of Breda, Dale (Phyllis) Steinkamp of Breda, and Dean (Dana) Steinkamp of Creston; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Betty Fischer, a brother-in-law, Bill Myers, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

LeRoy "Doc" Steinkamp, 66 of Breda, died Sunday, December 9, 2018, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a brief battle with cancer.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Mass Server will be Doc’s brother, Tom Steinkamp. Music for the funeral mass will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lecter and Eucharistic Minister will be Leonard Snyder. Honorary Casket Bearers and Casket Bearers will be Doc’s nephews: Doug Steinkamp, Chase Steinkamp, Ben Steinkamp, Jeff Steinkamp, Wes Bierl, Andrew Steinkamp, Eric Steinkamp, Matt Bierl, Jon Steinkamp, Ryan Steinkamp, Joe Steinkamp and Mitchell Dettbarn.

Born on November 27, 1952, at Carroll, Iowa, LeRoy “Doc” Steinkamp was the son of Leonard and Lynette (Schultes) Steinkamp. Doc spent his entire lifetime in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1970. Following his schooling he was employed at the Breda Veterinarian Clinic for 17 years and later went to work for Pella Corporation in Carroll. For the past 25 years Doc was employed at Toyne Inc. in Breda.

Doc coached slow pitch for the Breda Zekers, enjoyed golfing, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends at Zeke’s, Red’s and the Breda Golf Course. Doc had an enthusiastic personality that truly was a joy be around. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Breda.

Doc is survived by his siblings: Jim Steinkamp of Carroll, Dick (Jan) Steinkamp of Carroll, Alyce (Leon) Bierl of Arcadia, Tom Steinkamp of Ankeny, Mike (Lori) Steinkamp of Breda, Mary (Larry) Dettbarn of Carroll, Dale (Phyllis) Steinkamp of Breda, and Dean (Dana) Steinkamp of Creston; a special aunt, Janet Snyder of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters-in-law, Laurie Steinkamp and Faith Steinkamp; his niece, Tessa Steinkamp; his nephews: Adam Steinkamp and Scott Steinkamp; and a brother in infancy, Jerry Steinkamp.1
