John Leo Berning, 21, of Carroll, died Wednesday, February 8, of electrical shock in a construction accident in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 11, at St. Lawrence church with the Rev. Lawrence McCarty as celebrant. Denny Rutten will be lector and gift-bearers will be Mrs. Scott (Beth) Forkenbrock, Jim, Sara and Jeffery Berning. Burial will be in St. John parish cemetery at Arcadia. Serving as casketbearers will be Randy Schreck, Mark Schreck, Curt Schweers, Gary Riesenberg, Larry Bruggeman, Tim Owens and Tom Berg.

Visitation at the Twit Funeral Home in Carroll will be at 3 p.m. Friday by the family and at 3:30 p.m. Friday for friends. Rosaries will be recited at 4 and 8 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home at 9 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Berning is survived by his wife, Melanie; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo H. Berning, Arcadia; a sister, Mrs. Scott (Beth) Forkenbrock, Sheldon; two brothers, Jim and Jeffery Berning and a sister, Sara Berning, all of Arcadia; his grandmother, Mrs. Rose Badding, Arcadia, and parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Schreck, Route 3, Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Badding and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Berning.

Mr. Berning was born October 16, 1962, in Carroll, a son of Leo H. and Mary Jo Badding Berning. He attended St. John School in Arcadia and graduated from Kuemper High School in Carroll in 1981. He was married to Melanie Schreck at Holy Angels Church in Roselle on April 23, 1983, with the Rev. Timothy R. Schott officiating. He was employed by the Badding Construction Company. His home was on Highway 30 West where the family has lived for the past three years.1
