Dianne Nieland, 73 of Carroll, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Visitation will be held at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday until time of the funeral service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Dianne’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.

Born on June 30, 1942, at Lake City, Iowa, Dianne was the daughter of Walter and Sylvia (Schroeder) Beckman. She attended country school and later graduated from Carroll High School.

On April 8, 1961, Dianne was united in marriage to Merlin Venteicher. To this union were born six children: Joseph, Julie, Lisa, Michael, Michele, and Renee. Following the passing of her husband, Dianne later married Allen Nieland on November 23, 1990. Throughout her working career, she was employed at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and also worked at Farmland Foods in Carroll for 28 years. Allen and Dianne enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and their many friends. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, doing puzzles, and was an avid 49ers and Giants fan.

Left to celebrate her life is her husband, Allen Nieland of Carroll; her daughters: Julie Sanders and her husband Jim of Carroll, Lisa Siegner and her husband Paul of Carroll, Michele Hatella and her husband Kurt of New Richmond, WI, and Renee Boardman and her husband Greg of Clear Lake, WI; 8 grandchildren: Alex (Ashley) Feilmeier of Des Moines, Samantha Boumeester of Eagan, MN, Nicole Siegner of St. Paul, MN, Shelby Boumeester (Brett Przymus) of St. Cloud, MN, Ashley Siegner of Carroll, Adam Boardman of Clear Lake, WI, Brett (Denise) Hatella of Osceola, WI, and Seth Boardman of New Richmond, WI; 3 great-grandchildren: Charlotte, James, and Gracie; her sisters: Dorothy Frank of Wall Lake, and Dolores Bonney of Denver, CO; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry (Eunice) Venteicher, Elmer (Linda) Venteicher, Marlene Beckman, Phyllis Venteicher, Jerry (Carolyn) Nieland, Randy (Debbie) Nieland, and Don (Laurie) Nieland; her aunt, Lavonne Benson; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.

Dianne was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Merlin Venteicher; her sons: Joseph and Michael Venteicher; her sister, Darlene (Arnold) Hartje; her brother, Donald Beckman; her parents-in-law: Joseph and Elizabeth Venteicher and Arnold and Germaine Nieland; and her brothers-in-law: Arland Frank, Richard Bonney, Ralph Venteicher, and Donald Venteicher.

Michael L. Schwieso
Michael L. “Mick” Schwieso, son of Albert and Madonna McMahon Schwieso, was born August 4, 1946, in Kittery, Maine. Mick’s family lived in Chicago, Illinois where he attended kindergarten. The following year his family moved to Manilla, Iowa where he graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1964. After his schooling Mick worked at a number of places, including Farmland, Manilla Fertilizer, Hy-Line, Omaha Cold Storage, Rocky’s, Miller See, and Horizon Seed.

On April 30, 1977, Mick was united in marriage with Carleen Nieland at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. Mick and Carleen made their home in Manilla. Mick was employed at Sucrosco Seed. Due to failing health, Mick retired in 2000. Mick was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He loved his dogs and cat and enjoyed participating with chat lines on the computer, hunting, fishing, gardening, music, photography, bowling, golfing and keeping the cars clean and waxed. Monday, July 23, 2001, Mick died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, shortly after suffering a heart attack at his home. He was 54 years, 11 months and 19 days of age.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carleen Schwieso of Manilla; brothers and sisters: Dennis Schwieso and his wife Linda of Waterloo; Chris Macumber and her husband Glen of Manilla; Pamela Jurgensen and her husband Gerald of Manilla; Jeff Schwieso of Manilla; an uncle Gerald “Jiggs” McMahon of Manilla; three aunts: Patricia McMahon of Manilla; Dorothy Rooney of Sioux City; Mary Schwieso of Council Bluffs; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral mass will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2010, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake with Full Military Rites by the Alta VFW Post #6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

James David Stacey was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of Cleo and Gertrude (Mackey) Stacey. On March 3, 1947, James was baptized into the Catholic faith and later confirmed in 1957. Growing up, he lived in Fonda, where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School and later graduated from Fonda High School in 1965. Following high school graduation, on Oct. 1, 1968, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received numerous awards until he was honorably discharged on March 26, 1970. On May 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Janice Nieland in Miami, Okla.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. While living in Storm Lake, he worked at Hygrade. He worked at Wilsons in Marshall and cleaned and swept chimneys and cooking vents for Hardee's restaurants. He also worked at Marshall Habilitation Center and owned Crazy Jim's Army and Navy surplus store until he sold it because of health reasons. He enjoyed photography and his computer. He loved his dogs and fishing with his buddy, Ed. One of his most special memories was a trip to New York City.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Stacey of Marshall; mother-in-law, Marie Nieland of Storm Lake; brother-in-law, Leroy Nieland of Fonda; sisters-in-law, Carleen Schwieso of Manilla, Iowa; Karen Triplett and her husband, Wilbur, of Storm Lake, Rose Rasmussen and her husband, Dennis, of Manilla, Carol Copeland and her husband, Steve, of Omaha, Neb., and Jean Fassler and her husband, Matt, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; seven nephews; two nieces; 10 great-nephews and great-nieces; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Gertrude Stacey; father-in-law, Richard Nieland; great niece, Emily Nieland; uncles, aunts and cousins.1
