Born on June 3, 1928, in Dedham, Iowa, Leona was the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Starman) Bierl. She grew up near the Dedham community, and attended school at St. Joseph’s School in Dedham. On April 26, 1949, Leona was united in marriage to Leonard Klocke at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham with Fr. Henry Pick officiating. The couple made their home south of Willey where Leona was a devoted homemaker, and active in the grain and livestock farming operation. The couple retired to the Carroll community in 1992.

Leona enjoyed volunteering. She volunteered at St. Mary’s School in Willey and St. Joseph’s School in Dedham; she was active with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary’s and St. Lawrence Church Guilds, as well as spending many hours volunteering with the R.S.V.P. and New Hope Village in Carroll. Leona also enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and embroidery, but most of all Leona enjoyed the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Leona was a former member of St. Mary’s Parish and Guild of Willey, and a current member of St. Lawrence Parish and Guild in Carroll.

Carmel, Denise (Maury) Brincks of Appleton, WI, Marilyn (Matt) Schultes of Johnston, Gene (Chris) Klocke of Carroll, and Daryl (Cheryl) Klocke of Dedham; a daughter-in-law: Sue (Klocke) Clausen of Audubon; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Mary Lou (Larry) Gehling of Westside, Joyce (Tom) Ruffino of Omaha, NE; her brother-in-law: Ronald (Linda) Klocke of Mankato, MN; her sisters-in-law: Louise Klocke of Carroll, Lavina Kaiser of Long Grove, IL, Dorothy (Bill) Schon of Glidden, and Annabelle Fox of Templeton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
