CURTIS J. PEINE
Curtis J. Peine, 63, of 8461 Veralta Drive, Cedar Falls, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Monday afternoon at 12:45 p. m., while working in his yard.

He was born Dec. 14, 1899, the son of Joseph and Anna Bowman Piney of Greenly, Kan. He married Genevieve Kress on Nov. 10, 1930, at Kansas City. He came to Waterloo in March of 1940 and has been employed at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Co. as a furnace operator.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Cedar Falls and of the Holy Name Society and the Waterloo Council, Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his widow, one son, Wallace, Rt. 1, Fairbank; four daughters, Miss. Rita Peine of Washington, D. C; Mrs. Merlyn Horstman of 317 North Ellen St. Cedar Falls; Mrs. Joseph Iacovone of Hillsdale, N.J; Miss Jeannie Peine at home; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Maurice Piene of Greenley Kan; five sisters, Mrs. Scott Myers of Kansas City, Kan; Mrs. Walter Hagar Mrs. John Walker and Leon; Lenora Baier, all of Kansas City; Mrs. Kenneth Miles, Santa Rosa, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Cedar Falls. There will be a Rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday by the Knights of Columbus at the Oppoid funeral home.

CURTIS J. PEINE

Services for Curtis J. Peine, 63, 3401 Veralta Dr., were conducted Thursday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church.

Mr. Peine died of a heart attack Monday afternoon at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1899, in Greeley, Kan.

Among his survivors are his widow; a, son, Wallace, Fairbank; four daughters, Miss Rita Peine, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Merlyn Horstman, 317 N. Ellen St., Mrs. Joseph Iacovone, Hillsdale, N. J., and Jeannie, at home; 10 grandchildren; one brother, and five sisters.

The Oppold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.2

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic church for Mrs. Herman Kress, 53, of 116 Sutton Ave., Elk Run Heights, who died at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Allen Memorial hospital of carcinoma.

The Rev. Fr. Alvan Heuring, pastor, will officiate. There will be a Rosary by the Parish and Rosary Society at 8 . p.m. Wednesday at the Oppold funeral home.

She was graduated from West High School. She was married to Herman Kress on May 29, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Waterloo. She was a beauty operator and conducted a beauty shop on Randolph Street for a number of years. Mrs. Kress was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic church in Evansdale and of the Rosary Society.

Surviving are her husband; four children, Michael, Catherine, William and Eileen, all at home; her father, William McGlade, who had been making his home with her; three brothers, Joe McGlade, 613 Cedar Bend Dr; Jim McGlade, Chicago, and Leo McGlade, Delavan, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her mother.2

BLOOMFIELD - William E. Porter, age 84, of Bloomfield, WI, passed away Saturday March 12, 2011, at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home in Dover. He was born on April 14, 1926, in Kenosha.
The son of the late Dorothy Greene. On December 25, 1946, in Hebron, IL, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Koester.

He served in the United States Navy and received the Purple Heart for his services. He is a member of the Purple Heart Club, the Disabled American Veteran's, the Twin Lakes American Legion Post 544 for 65 years. He is also a member of the Navy Club of Southern Lakes Bill Porter Ship No. 240.
William enjoyed doing woodworking especially making wooden trucks. He enjoyed going up north and Fishing.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann. 3 Children: William (Millie) of Seattle, Wash. Ronald (Nancy) of Elk Grove Village, Ill. and Marcia (Greg) Remer of Burlington. 5 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy and stepfather Kenneth.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Homes. Inurnment will be in Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Cemetery.

LAKE CITY - Mass of the Christian burial for Carol Ann Eichhorn, 44, of Lake City, will be celebrated by the Rev. Edw. J. Young at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. Burial will be at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery at Lake City. Visitation is after noon today at Huffman Memorial Chapel in Lake City. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eichhorn died Wednesday, March 4, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Born Dec. 21, 1942, at Lake City, she was the daughter of Edwin and Irene Grabner Hobart. On Oct. 8, 1966, she was married to Phillip Eichhorn in Lake City. Besides being a member of St. Mary's Church, she was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Federated Arts Club and St. Mary's Sodality. She was a former member of the Village Square Theatre board of directors and the County Choir Extension Committee. She also taught catechism.

She is survived by her husband, Phil, of Lake City; two sons, Chris of Iowa State University at Ames and Jon at home; her mother, Irene Hobart of Lake City; and a sister, Joan Hobart of Omaha, Neb.

Preceding her in death were her father and a son, Jeffrey.2

Phillip Eichhorn, 75, of Lake City, died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Per his wishes his body was donated to the University of Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Lake City Union Church in Lake City with Pastor Randy Russom officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church, and burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be left for Stewart Memorial Community Hospital or Opportunity Living.

Phillip John Eichhorn, son of John Henry and Margaret Olive (Deischer) Eichhorn, was born on Nov. 26, 1943, at Monticello, Iowa. Phil graduated from Midland High School in Wyoming, Iowa, in 1961 and from Iowa State University in 1965. After graduation he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force. He separated from the Air Force as a captain in 1971.

Phil married Carol Ann Hobart on Oct. 8, 1966. To this union were born three sons, Christopher Sloan, Jeffrey Hobart and Jonathan Edwin. He joined Hobart Brothers Seed Company and eventually assumed ownership. His second son, Jeffrey, passed away at 22 months after a long illness. His first wife, Carol, passed away on March 4, 1987. He later married Carol J. Hucka on Aug. 19, 1989. Phil served as a 4-H leader, Opportunity Living Board member, school board member, and Stewart Memorial Community Hospital Board member for eight years, four years as chairman.

In 2012 he and his sons sold the acreage, and he and Carol purchased a townhouse and moved to town. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011. The main joy in his life were his grandchildren.

Phil is survived by his wife, Carol Jean; sons Christopher (Erin) of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Jonathan (Detra) of Madisonville, Kentucky; granddaughters Katie, Grace, Kendra and Abby; grandsons John Thomas and Jacob; stepsons Rick (Denise) and Scott (Joanie); five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters Lois (Tim) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Patricia of Colorado; brothers Jim and Doug (Valerie) of Coralville, Iowa; sister-in-law Jade of Wyoming, Iowa; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jeffrey; first wife, Carol Ann; stepson Steve; and brother Pete.
