Lawrence S. "Larry" Reising
Larry was born September 14, 1938, in the Carroll County Hospital, to parents Lawrence and Anita Reising. He began his early education in Breda, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Wall Lake in 1956. In 1961, he graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agricultural business.

Larry cherished family. On December 26, 1961, he married Sharon Brink, whom he affectionally called Shari. Their family grew to include three children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren: Jodi and Dan Knight, and Joe, Andy, and Tyler; Dennis and Judy Reising, and Lindsay, Cassie, and Nathan; and Doreen and Brent Tucker, and ReNee, Marshall, and Peyton. Larry had three brothers and three sisters: Jonell (Dudley) Owen, Lyle (Linda) Reising, Donald “Lynn” (Mary Ann) Reising, Jean (deceased), Nita (Jerry) Faust, and Vern Reising. His extended family included Jan Rannells, Carl (Linda) Brink, Myra (Michael) Murphy, and Corinne (Joe) Smith. He also enjoyed many nieces, nephews, countless cousins, and friends.

Larry’s first job was working in a gas station for $15 a week, of which he saved half. He was proud that he helped build Hansen silos, easily recognized by their black and white checkered tops, during summer months when he taught high school vocational-agriculture for several years. He spent most of his life working as an agronomist, largely running fertilizer plants in various locations across the state: Manilla, Pioneer, Durant, and Waukee. He was also employed at Land o’ Lakes in Fort Dodge for 12 years. Not one to sit idle for long, following retirement, Larry drove school bus for Waukee School District for 12 years where he enjoyed the kids and co-workers.

Larry loved to spend time outdoors fishing and hunting, and he was excellent at sharing his “tales”. Larry also spent many hours on the golf course. He was a gifted woods craftsman. He enjoyed working in his shop and creating countless projects. Every room in Larry and Shari’s house has furniture which he built, and he loved to build projects as gifts for others.

With a deck of cards always within close reach, Larry was prepared at all times for a card game. He loved to boast about his winnings. He enjoyed playing house rules, especially Reising Pinochle and Reising Hearts. He took great pride in teaching his grandkids to play cards with him.

Larry could always be counted on to make those around him smile. His sense of humor and zest for life and fun will be a cherished memory for all who knew him.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice of Johnston.
